was supposed to get off work at 5, didn't get off work until 7pm. left from downtown only to miss my exit to the skyway toll. had to turn around on 94, go back into the downtown area ( add 1/2 hour to timeline) to correct mistake as apparently you can't catch the toll going north on 94. drive and get to almost indianapolis. pull over multiple times as i can't see shit due to the lack of winter blades and because it was a blizzard. they haven't called it that, or at least not that i've heard, but hello? blizzard? yes. semi comes by, almost die as can't see anything. decide i am risking life by either falling off the highway--chris and i had a good game two days later of counting cars and semis in the ditch--20+3 semis on the way to indy, 24 cars on the way home--or by getting out of my car on the "side" of the highway to scrap the ice off my blades. wiper fluid was not working. decide this and there isn't another exit for another 13 miles, and then it's five miles off the highway to frankfort's finest holiday inn express. i was headed towards the lighthouse inn, or maybe the lincoln inn, i forget, but this was closer. apparently the other was for the town drunks and for people that got evicted from their place so i see that as a slight stroke of luck. greeted by mullet #1. this is a trend.
sleep.
call mulitple people in the morning including anne. THANK YOU ANNE. gives me update and decide to stay another day, in frankfort. frankfort is a less urban mt. vernon if that means anything. spend 2.25 hours exploring their square. this includes a very long lunch at arnies. and a 1/2 hour in the christian bookstore looking at jesus coloring books. i was searching for a paper. find local 8 pg paper and read. girls basketball hotdog tourney postponed due to weather--all the teams were the hotdogs with little dachsunds on them. do crossword, of which at least four que/answers deal with hotdogs. ex: hotdog holders. four letters. hrm.
go to walmart. many mullets. not where i planned to do last minute holiday shopping.
decide to go to dinner. as "hoops" has come highly recommended. leave. must pass over two train tracks. at the first one wait 20 mins and realize the train is stuck as it's going forward and backward and making an awful noise.
finally get home. aunt with 4 wheel drive has parked at top of driveway. ask mom to have her move it. she says, "you'll be fine. just pull down." pull down. have christmas eve with fam as planned. receive a small HEAD ON A STICK from my aunt. no idea what it is, or how one uses it. really bizarre.
see sarah, jason and dave, after spending an hour digging my mom's jeep out of ice and snow. drive 50 mins to their place. chill. spend night.
go home. eat omlette sandwich with mom. take nap. go to hellish dad's house with new wife and new wife's family. eat south african peanut soup. actually good. stare at grilled veggies. pass on pork.
go to friend's house to drop off chocolates that i've spent $35 on--for 13 truffles. he thinks they're no good. which is good, cause they're his competition, but still...
go home. kate comes over. we talk drama until 3:30 am.
next morning: have to leave as could not get time off work even though i have 6 days vacation left to take. go to leave. don't make it up driveway, duh. guy that's plowed driveway has left the narrowest of paths. get stuck. neighbor comes over. trys to help. car gets more stuck. towing companies and AAA are booked and hours of waiting. call dad. comes with H2 and will now have story forever as to how he "saved his daughter" with his ridiculous vehicle. go to leave, still no wiper fluid. can't see. spent almost an hour trying to find wiper fluid. 5 gas stations and a kroger stop later have fluid. pour fluid. it's full. jam pen into hole. works. dumb.
drive home not bad until just outside of chicago. snow. can't see. gets slick. still make RECORD TIME in getting home. stroke of luck and i have parking right in front of my apartment. talking to friend that was watching cat. friend is in lake geneva. friend has keys. fuck. drive to other friend's apartment that has spare set. not home. not in any usual spots. roommate is out of town. landlord is out of town. can't get into their place where i know my keys are. 2 hours later they return and i have my keys.
home.
sleep.
return to stress case that is my job.
